Problem

The Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare (SOS) makes own definition tables parallel to the process at the Nordic Casemix Centre (NCC) and the current problem was discovered during routine comparison between SWE2014CC-SOS-PR02 (SOS version) and SWE2014PR0F (NCC version) in the autumn 2013.

In the updating process for NordDRG 2014 we remarked that some diagnosis codes beginning with O were missing under COMPL 15C01 in the Compl.excl table (compared with NordDRG 2013).
Martti correctly pointed out that exclusion rules for diagnosis codes beginning with O under COMPL beginning with 15C/15G are impossible. All codes with COMPL 15C/15G are exclusively newborn codes and then the principal diagnosis cannot be a maternal code.
Thus, all rows with a COMPL value beginning with 15 and a CODE value beginning with O can be deleted from the Compl.excl table in all versions. In the Swedish version it is approximately 500 rows that can be deleted.

Suggestion

NPK, Sweden– 2014-01-29

All rows with a COMPL value beginning with 15 and a CODE value beginning with O can be deleted from the Compl.excl table in all versions. See Suggestion CPK ID 533.

Technical change

In komplex table all rows with COMPL 15C01 and dx code starting with ‘O’ are inactivated and possibly even deleted.

DRG change

No change since the obstetric diagnoses are not allowed for neonatal patients. That they would be used as principal dx of a neonate is extremely unlikely.
